Our Content Creation Kit

A question we get asked time and time again is what camera gear we use and how we edit our YouTube videos & Instagram content. We are completely self-taught and have just learnt along the way so we like to keep things really simple. Our best piece of advice if you are wanting to learn how to create content is to watch tutorials on YouTube! There is so much great information out there from professionals in the field and it’s all FREE – we have learnt how to use our camera, how to edit videos, and how to get certain drone shots all from YouTube & practising!

What’s in our camera bag?

Phones: iPhone 14 Pro Max

Camera body: Sony A7IV

Camera Lenses: Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 (Most used) & Sony 70-200mm F/4

Drone: DJI Mini 3

Underwater camera: GoPro Hero 10

How do we edit our content?

There are so many programs & software out there for editing so it can be really overwhelming when you are trying to work out what to start with! We like to keep things simple & try not to have too many apps or softwares to edit our content with. When it comes to editing our photos, we use the Adobe Lightroom App on our iPhones & Adobe Lightroom Classic on our Macbooks. We started out by using free presets to edit our photos and over time have worked out how we like to edit our photos & have then saved those as our own presets which we can easily add to photos. To create reels/videos for Instagram & TikTok we use Adobe Premiere Rush or edit within the apps.

When it comes to editing our YouTube videos we have always kept it easy & simple and use the free app on our Apple devices – iMovie! When you speak to most people who are creating YouTube videos they are all using software that you have to pay for & will tell you that you need these programs, but you really don’t! I’m sure there will be a day that we will think about updating our software, but for now, iMovie is working just fine for us & its FREE! 🙌🏼 We pay for a monthly subscription to a royalty free website for our music for our YouTube videos, but you can find free royalty free music on YouTube. We used free music for a really long time when we first started to cut the costs of content creation.

Our Advice to you?

Our piece of advice when it comes to content creation is to be consistent! Consistent with how often you post & your style. We recommend testing & trialling to find your own style & then stick to it – don’t try and copy what others are doing! You will stand out from the crowd and come across as a lot more authentic if you are just being yourself 💕 Most importantly, have fun with it! We sure do😆

What we started out with:

This is the kit we started out with when we first started our journey.

How do we make an income on the road?

How we fund our travels

Lets talk money… this would hands down be one of the most asked questions we get! “How do you afford to travel Australia?” or “How do you make money on the road?”. We are sharing this blog to help those who are wanting to work online and share our knowledge on the different streams of…

Thanks so much for reading & for your support!

I watched your explanation regards the electrical. It was as you said very just plain telling the truth of how it is.
I have been fortune to have a Swiss friend that has built overland touring trucks he has people travel to him on the south coast of NSW for him to sort out their electrical among other problems. He uses Victron gear mainly unless his client what other equipment. Even then he will only install gear that is proven. One item he does build as a custom built heater is a heat exchanger system. He normally uses the diesel HWS to run both HW and the heating. On a overland truck you can use the trucks diesel tank for the heaters fuel supply.
He and his family have traveled in some very remote places in the world before he settled in Australia. At one point he build a section in his truck to keep his children safe in some of the places there where visiting.
I know i have got off the track sorry love what you two do my wife and I have reached a age that we have to be careful as age is catching up.
We travel a lot and yes we remote camp at times to our families horror but we would not have it any other way. The first up the Centre trip was in 1966 that was when the was only dirt road.
Keep the information coming and I love your travel safely attitude. Safe travels. David and Bev.
