Litchfield National Park Itinerary

Night 1: Upon arrival at Florence Falls Campground, set up your camp and take a refreshing dip in the campsite swimming hole, Florence Falls. Let the peaceful surroundings wash away your worries, promising a restful night under the starry skies.

Day 1:

Stop 1: Tolmer Falls: Begin your adventure with a visit to Tolmer Falls. Experience the beauty of the falls from the lookout, where the pink-hued sky and glistening rocks create a magical atmosphere in the early morning light. For the more adventurous, explore the creek walk that leads to the bottom of the falls, but you’ll need to arrive extra early if you want to do this walk.

Old Reynolds 4WD Track: Embark on an exhilarating journey along the Old Reynolds 4WD Track, immersing yourself in the rugged terrain and ever-changing landscapes of the National Park. Remember to drop your tyre pressures before starting the track to make the ride more comfortable for yourself, your car & to help preserve the road for others. Be prepared for a few water crossings along this track, the first was around 0.4-0.5m deep & the second was shallower, but a longer & tighter track.

Stop 2: Tjaynera Falls (Sandy Creek): This moderate 3.4km return walk will lead you through rocky and sandy trails, be sure to carry water with you and prepare to be rewarded with the natural beauty that awaits. This was actually one of our favourite stops of the day, it is absolutely incredible!

Stop 3: Surprise Creek Falls: Take an easy 1km return walk to Surprise Creek Falls, a hidden oasis nestled within the park. As you enjoy the serene surroundings, remember to stay safe and be cautious of the presence of crocodiles in the park’s waterways. When we were there they actually had a crocodile trap set up in the creek to the right as you walk in. There are crocodiles in many of the creeks & have even been removals from popular swimming holes, so just be cautious. We decided that we would swim in the very top pool at Surprise Creek Falls for this very reason! Crocodiles have legs and we just weren’t convinced that the first hole was 100% safe to swim in. There was a little waterfall at the top & we had a platter for lunch while we enjoyed the top pool to ourselves. It did get quite busy once it hit after lunch though!

From here you are going to turn around & head back to the main road to get back to camp.

Night 2:

Return to Florence Falls Campground and spend the night immersed in the tranquility of the park. Reflect on the day’s adventures while sitting back listing to the sounds of nature.

Day 2:

Buleys Rockhole: Begin your day with a visit to Buleys Rockhole, a short drive from the campsite. This tranquil spot offers plunge pools to cool off and start your day the best way possible. As this is quite a small spot, it might be a bit tricky to visit in the busy parts of the day if you want to photograph it so we recommend going early morning or late afternoon.

Wangi Falls: Indulge in the beauty of Wangi Falls, one of the park’s most popular attractions. Take a refreshing dip in the swimming hole and explore the surrounding walking trails. There is also a café located here for a quick treat or drink.
